A look at the $21 million mansion that will be Prince William and Kate Middleton’s new home

Prince William and Katherine, Princess of Wales together with their three children: Louis, George and Charlotte are on the move, and hope to be in their new home in time for Christmas.

After three years living in Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Castle estate, the Wales family will soon be based just down the road at Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park.

The nine-bay Georgian red brick house with its large Venetian windows was constructed in the 1770s and was acquired by the Crown in 1829. Surrounded by woodlands, the Grade II-listed property underwent restoration work in 2001 after the previous tenants left.

A fresh start in Windsor Great Park

Moving to Forest Lodge will allow Will and Kate to move on from a deeply unsettling period in their lives which included the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 following by personal health issues and King Charles’ cancer diagnosis.

A royal source told UK newspapers: “Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter - an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind. This is a move for the long-term. They see it as their ‘forever home’.”

Valued at $20.3 million (£16 million), Forest Lodge boasts a grand entrance hall with a vaulted ceiling, a chandelier-lit ballroom, tennis court along with Georgian-era touches such as marble fireplaces and many other stunning original features.

The property is currently undergoing light restoration work in time to welcome the prince, princess and their young family by the end of the year.
