A Microsoft outage has caused disruptions to US airlines. What happened?

A major Microsoft technical outage has affected airline operations in the United States. According to Frontier Airlines, their services could suffer some disruptions, including booking, checking, access to boarding passes, and flights.

Frontier Airlines has grounded their flights, leaving passengers stranded at airport terminals. The company did not give details on when operations would normalize, but assured travelers that they would provide updates when available. The airline also said they would offer refunds to affected customers.

The company said that other companies have also been affected by the technical outage.

Sun County Airlines also posted on X that they had some disruptions caused by an outage, which it said had affected “multiple airlines.”

Allegiant Air’s website is down, and according to its page, “the Allegiant website is currently unavailable due to the Microsoft Azure issue.”

Passengers took to social media to complain about the problems they encountered at the airport, saying that most airlines have suspended operations.

So far, United, Southwest and American Airlines have said the outage has not interfered with their services.

According to Microsoft’s Azure cloud software’s status report site, service was disrupted in the Central US region around 6 p.m. ET.

This included issues with “service management operations and connectivity or availability of services”. The cause of the problem has reportedly been discovered and the company is in the process of resolving it.

Meanwhile, users have also taken to social media to say the Microsoft outage is affecting Azure services, while others are complaining that Xbox live is having service issues.
