A mysterious statue has appeared in the Mojave Desert: these are the theories of those who investigated it
Curious gamers drove into the Mojave to see the bizarre monument up close, convinced it hides clues about a major game reveal.

It all began on Nov. 29, when Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards 2025, shared on X, formerly Twitter, a photo of what looked like a sculpture or the base of a massive statue. The image showed a door-like opening surrounded by carvings of bodies, a crocodile and an armored warrior. Keighley posted it with a cryptic three word caption: “regal.inspiring.thickness.” He later followed up with coordinates.

Because Keighley organizes the biggest gaming event of the year, fans assumed it had to be a clue pointing to an unannounced project. Adventurous players did not hesitate. They grabbed their keys, hit the road and headed straight for the coordinates in the Mojave Desert.
A monument even stranger than expected
The shock came when visitors arrived and discovered the statue is real. It sits in the middle of nowhere and looks even more imposing than it did in Keighley’s photo. Above the doorway is a silhouette that resembles either an alien creature or something straight out of a nightmare. Its shape is so odd that no one has managed to interpret it. To make things even more mysterious, the tips of the creature’s legs light up in red after dark. A video circulating on X shows the eerie glow.

What this thing is teasing is still a big question. A staff member confirmed it's connected to God of War but he didn't seem to know exactly what… https://t.co/CgFow1PNV0 pic.twitter.com/bzO49in6rh
Theories ahead of The Game Awards 2025
Most fans agree that a reveal connected to the statue is coming at the show. In the meantime, the gaming community has dissected every carving and color in search of clues. The warrior, the bodies, the crocodile, the creature and the statue’s palette have all fueled speculation.
Here are the leading theories:
• Elden Ring 2
• A new God of War
• A Diablo 4 expansion
• The Elder Scrolls VI
• A new Castlevania
• A DOOM: Dark Ages expansion
• A brand new dark fantasy IP
What is it pointing to? We will find out on Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
