After eggs, now it’s snacks: This is the reason why chips and cookies have become so expensive
Increasing prices have seen many Americans cut back on snacks with a reported drop of 3% in sales for the final quarter of 2024.

Just when it appears that the American wholesale egg prices have managed to recalibrate to their former price range, it appears that snacks are the next food to experience a price hike.
Snack prices have gone up more rapidly than other store items across many supermarket chains. As standard grocery prices have increased 23% since February of 2021, prices for chips have increased 29%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The average price of a 16-ounce bag of potato chips last month was $6.50 compared to it’s February 2021 average price of just over five dollars according to the BLS.
As part of a consumer cost cutting exercise, many shoppers are veering away from established brands such as Lay’s and Doritos and opting for white-label brands sold by Walmart, Costco and other retailers.

Snack prices rises are being attributed to a series of factors, including rising input costs for food producers, supply chain disruptions, and increased demand, which are all contributing to higher overall food prices, including snacks.
