During a game against Southern Academy in Selma, Caden Tellier, a talented 16-year-old quarterback for Morgan Academy, was injured by a forceful tackle in the third quarter.

The school’s headmaster, Bryan Oliver, shared with the media that the young quarterback sustained a severe brain injury. In a race against time, Caden was airlifted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital on that Friday night, where he received urgent medical attention.

Oliver referred to Tellier, who was also a registered organ donor, as a radiant presence at the private school in Selma, Alabama.

He was a student, a friend, an athlete and most important a Christ follower. There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family,” Oliver said in a statement posted on social media.

The probable cause of Caden Tellier’s death

Alabama Independent School Association’s Executive Director, Michael McClendon, shared in a statement on Sunday that it is suspected that Caden sustained a ruptured blood vessel in his brain as a result of a routine play where he was carrying the ball and was tackled to the ground.

However, McClendon also mentioned that the school is collecting details about the accident, which may take some time before more information regarding his injury becomes available.

The Tellier family has announced that a service will be scheduled soon. According to the school association, Morgan Academy school officials have suspended all school activities for this week.
