Alberto Fujimori, who served as president of Peru for a decade, has died in the Peruvian capital Lima at the age of 86.

His daughter Keiko Fujimori announced his death through a post on X.

Fujimori’s rule from 1990 to 2000 became increasingly authoritarian, and he was convicted and imprisoned for corruption and human rights abuses, including responsibility for the murder of 25 people.

The former president died from cancer, according to Fox News. He is survived by his four children. His daughter Keiko had said in July that he was intending to run for his fourth term as president in 2026.
