Alert for severe storms and hail in the US: Affected areas and how long it will last

Various states in the U.S. are under alert for a series of severe storms that will extend in a strip that runs from the north to the south of the country.

Severe weather continues to wreak havoc in parts of the United States. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms that will bring hail the size of a golf ball, or the equivalent of more than two inches in diameter.

This new series of severe storms will move across an extensive strip that goes from the north to the south of the country; specifically, from the state of New York to Texas. As for the regions that have rivers and streams, the authorities recommend being on the lookout for possible flooding.

Among the most affected areas are the regions of central Texas and Arkansas, where the weather will be mostly unstable. In addition to rain and hail, strong gusts of wind are also expected . According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center (SPC) “freezing flow will increase the risk of damaging wind gust corridors forming.”

The severe weather is a result of a cold front that is currently moving through the Ohio Valley. The harsh conditions are expected to last at least until the evening of Thursday, May 23. In addition to the severe rains, a good part of the country is under a tornado warning, so authorities recommend staying up to date with updates, in case you area will need to evacuate.

The heat will return for Memorial Day

According to various projections, low temperatures and bad weather will not last past the weekend, as the heat is expected to return for Memorial Day. This holiday informally marks the beginning of summer, as it is the first long weekend of the season.
