Ángela Fernández, psychologist: “Sometimes, the hardest part isn’t processing a breakup, but being left with unanswered questions”
In a TikTok video, a mental-health professional has reflected on the complexities of an unexpected romantic split.
Recovering from an unexpected breakup is one of the toughest psychological challenges a person can face. Goodbyes are always painful, and when they come out of nowhere, they can spark a flood of questions the other person may never be willing to answer.
“Not getting closure also a form of closure”
Psychologist Ángela Fernández, known on TikTok as pursuit.psicologia, shared a video explaining that “sometimes, the hardest part isn’t processing a breakup or accepting that the relationship is over. Sometimes, the hardest part is being left with a bunch of unanswered questions.”
“What many of us don’t realize is that not getting closure is also a form of closure,” the young psychologist adds. It’s an ending to the story that, while not the one we wanted, is the one we’re left to live with. “Silence communicates, too, because it tells us that this person doesn’t have the emotional maturity, the relational responsibility, or the courage to speak honestly when it matters.”

“Build your own closure”
So what should you do in these situations? “When you’re not given explanations, it’s up to you to build your own closure,” Fernández says. And to do that, she outlines a few essential steps. “First, accept that you’re not going to get all the answers you want. Second, stop looking for explanations from someone who chose not to give them.”
Finally, the mental‑health professional recommends that we be the ones to shape our own ending and “close the chapter ourselves.” “Not because someone explains it to you, but because you deserve a dignified ending - and you deserve peace,” she concludes.
