Annie Wersching dies aged 45: How did the ‘Star Trek’ and ‘The Last of Us’ star die?

The actress’ husband confirmed that she passed away this weekend. Friends and family have paid tribute to her “open heart and a contagious smile”.

Actress Annie Wersching has passed away following a battle with cancer, her family confirmed in a statement released on Sunday. Best known for her performances in ‘24′, ‘Bosch’ and ‘The Last of Us’, the Missouri-born star was 45 years old.

In 2020 she was diagnosed with cancer but continue to shoot for key roles in ‘Star Trek: Picard’ and ‘The Rookie’. She had not made the condition public and her death will have come as a great shock to her many fans.

Her husband, actor Stephen Full, issued a statement confirming her death:

“There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us the tools to fill it. She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you. ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall.”

“As I drove our boys, the true loves of her life, down the winding driveway and street, she would yell BYE! until we were out of earshot and into the world. I can still hear it ringing. Bye my Buddie. ‘I love you little family…’”

Wersching’s family supported with GoFundMe

She got her first big break in acting with a guest appearance on ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’ in 2002. A number of roles in television shows like ‘Killer Instinct’ and ‘Boston Legal’ followed, until in 2009 she landed the role of Renee Walker in ‘24′.

Wersching played Walker for two seasons, and went on to star in ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’, ‘Hawaii Five-0′ and ‘Dellas’.

Director and producer Jon Cassar paid tribute to Wersching’s talent and character in a statement posted on Sunday:

“My heart is broken in more pieces than I can count. Annie came into my world with an open heart and a contagious smile. Brandishing such talent, she took my breath away. Annie became more than a workmate, she became a real friend to me, my family and every cast and crew member that worked with her.”

After her death was made public, a GoFundMe listing was added to support husband Stephen and their three children. Within just three hours of the posting being made more than $40,000 had already been raised to help the family.
