Apple is adding ChatGPT in Siri: When will the new features be available?

Apple is taking a major step into the world of artificial intelligence with a series of new additions that utilise OpenAI’s ChatGPT software.

At its annual developers show on Monday Apple chief Tim Cook revealed a new system called AI - ‘Apple Intelligence’ - which promises to change the way that users operate devices. Principle among the changes is a new-look Siri which will utilise ChatGPT. The new capabilities will also allow users to generate text and content more easily.

Speaking at the Worldwide Developers Conference in California, Cook claimed that the developments would take iPhone and Mac devices “to new heights” by harnessing the power of AI.

What is the release date for Apple’s AI system?

Apple has been more cautious in its move towards artificial intelligence but in recent months the technology behemoth has made concerted steps towards the new technology.

Last year ChatGPT became available to download on iPhone with a dedicated app offering a basic version of the service for free. In May Apple unveiled a new iPad Pro with an M4 chip, offering the sort of processing power needed to facilitate artificial intelligence systems.

The latest development, Apple’s first major ‘in-house’ AI, is scheduled to go live later this year. A test version of Apple’s AI system will be available in the fall.

However it’s not yet clear how the new advancement will materialise because the company says that ‘Apple Intelligence’ is not a single app or specific product. Instead, users will be able to utilise AI technology across a series of apps and products; everything from generating text to optimising schedules. The digital voice assists Siri is perhaps the clearest application of the new technology but expect to see AI’s involvement across all parts of Apple’s offering as the service develops.
