For Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, the payment schedule for the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 includes a significant adjustment that could impact their financial planning.

Due to the fact that January 1, 2025, is a federal holiday (New Year’s Day), the Social Security Administration (SSA) will issue the January 2025 SSI payments on December 31, 2024. This advance payment is part of the SSA’s policy to ensure that beneficiaries receive their funds without delay when the regular payment date falls on a weekend or a federal holiday.

As a result of this advance payment, SSI recipients will not receive an additional payment in January 2025. The payment made on December 31, 2024, covers the January benefit, so there will be no separate payment issued in the first month of the new year.

COLA adjustment included

The December 31 payment will also include the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), which is a 3.2% increase for SSI recipients. This adjustment is designed to help beneficiaries maintain their purchasing power in the face of rising costs.
