Balenciaga drops Kanye West: What other companies could cut ties with Ye?
Kanye West continues to make headlines and companies continue to cut ties with the controversial rapper and artist
Balenciaga and Vogue are the latest fashion companies to cut off ties with Ye, rapper and fashion designer previously known as Kanye West.
On Thursday, Balenciaga’s parent company Kering announced in a statement that it no longer had a relationship with Ye.
“Balenciaga has no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist,” Kering said Friday. Neither the company nor the artist have given comments yet.
Why did Baenciaga drop Ye?
The move came after various offensive and controversial comments from the artist online and antisemitic posts made in public appearances, that earned him suspensions from Twitter and Instagram. Some of these comments include Ye suggesting slavery is a choice, asserting George Floyd died of Fentanyl instead of excessive force by police, and calling the covid-19 vaccine the “mark of the beast.”
After getting locked out of the social media platforms, Ye offered to buy Parler, a right-wing-friendly social network.
What other companies cut ties with Kanye West?
In addition to Balenciaga and Vogue, more breakups with Ye have emerged in the past few weeks. Yeezy’s association with Gap has ended, and West has told Bloomberg that he plans to cut ties with his corporate suppliers as well. Additionally, West’s business relationship with JPMorganChase has also sailed, but that breakup was already on its way even before Ye’s antisemitic comments. Last but not least, Adidas has placed its sneaker deal with the controversial artist under review.
