Bank of America outage: Customers report problems accessing their bank accounts
Bank of America customers are reporting issues with their accounts, some posting screenshots with their balance dropping to zero.
Bank of America customers began reporting troubles accessing their accounts on Wednesday afternoon. Often, these sorts of issues can raise red flags for customers that their bank has been the target of a hack or cyberattack. More than 17,000 reports have been made on Down Detector, a website that allows users to report on outages they are experiencing. However, since the problem was initially reported, the number of new Down Detector submissions has fallen.
Some users noticed that while their checking account balance was zero, any debts they still owed were still visible. Others are saying that their issues have been resolved.
What is causing the outage?
Some customers have reported that upon entering their online account, their balance is $0 or otherwise incorrect. The bank has not made a public statement about the event, leaving many customers on edge. Upon attempting to login to their accounts, some users see an alert that some accounts are “temporarily unavailable.” Those who have spoken with customer relations say that the issue is a glitch and that the bank is working to resolve the issue. CNN was one of the first outlets to report on the outage, with some of the news agency’s employees reporting problems with their account balances.
