Bank of America will close all of its branches in the U.S. this week: There will be no service on this date
Bank of America will close all its branches in the United States for 24 hours next Thursday, January 1, 2026.
Banks typically follow the Federal Reserve’s holiday calendar, which includes 11 federal holidays throughout the year, from New Year’s Day to Christmas Day. On these dates, banks give their employees the day off, and branch locations close.
This will happen soon. Bank of America will close all its branches across the United States on Thursday, January 1, 2026, as it observes the first federal holiday of the year, New Year’s Day.
Alongside Bank of America, several major banks will also be closed on January 1, 2026, including Wells Fargo, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Chase, Citibank, U.S. Bank, SunTrust Bank, Capital One, Citizens Bank, Santander Bank, BBVA, and Compass.
Although most banks will be closed for New Year’s Day, online banking services and ATMs will remain available. Customers will still be able to carry out most everyday banking tasks, such as paying bills online, transferring money between accounts, withdrawing or depositing cash at ATMs, and checking balances and spending through mobile apps.
However, it is important to note that payments scheduled on a federal holiday may not be processed until the bank reopens on the next business day. You should also be aware that some banks operate on reduced hours on New Year’s Eve.
Because New Year’s Day is an official federal holiday, federal government offices are required to close and employees receive a paid day off. In addition to banks, schools, post offices, public libraries, and the stock exchange will also be closed.
On New Year’s Day, most supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, and retail stores remain open. So far, only Costco has confirmed that it will be closed on January 1 next year.

Bank of America and most of the country’s major banks will close on the following 11 dates in 2026:
• New Year’s Day: January 1, 2026
• Martin Luther King Jr. Day, third Monday of January: January 19, 2026
• Washington’s Birthday or Presidents’ Day, third Monday of February: February 16, 2026
• Memorial Day, last Monday of May: May 25, 2026
• Juneteenth: June 19, 2026
• Independence Day: July 3, 2026. Although the holiday is commemorated on July 4, it will be observed one day earlier in 2026 because July 4 falls on a Saturday
• Labour Day, first Monday of September: September 7, 2026
• Columbus Day, second Monday of October: October 12, 2026
• Veterans Day: November 11, 2026
• Thanksgiving Day, fourth Thursday of November: November 26, 2026
• Christmas Day: December 25, 2026
