Black Friday 2022: When do stores open and when will the deals end?

Every year eagle-eyed shoppers go in search of pre-Christmas bargains in the Black Friday sales, but when does the retail spectacular begin?

When do Black Friday deals start?

Thanksgiving has kick-started the holiday season for 2022 and this Friday will see one of the busiest shopping days of the year. The term ‘Black Friday’ originates from the fairly common practice of calling in sick on the day after Thanksgiving to get a four-day weekend, but its meaning has been altered in recent decades.

Now, Black Friday is the ultimate day of sales for eager shoppers in the build up to Christmas. This year the National Retail Federation estimates that 114.9 million people will shop on Black Friday, showing that in-person stores still hold huge sway over an increasingly digital consumer.

Many stores will open early on Black Friday to allow for the huge surge in customers, but the exact times will vary between companies and even between branches. With variance across the country, you should check online for your local store’s Thanksgiving opening hours before heading out.

We do know that brands like JC Penny, Best Buy and Kohl’s will all be open from 5am on Black Friday 2022, and many other major retails are expected to follow suit.

Black Friday sales to last the weekend

Although Friday, 25 November is the date designated for Black Friday 2022, the pre-holiday deals are not restricted to that single day. Many retailers began offering a select number of early Black Friday deals at the start of the week and those reductions will likely continue over the weekend.

Over the years the days following Black Friday have become as much of a part of the retail event as the day itself, spurred in part by the trend of online shopping. In fact, three days after Black Friday comes Cyber Monday; the day on which online retailers start slapping major reductions on their goods.

From Thanksgiving though Cyber Monday the National Retail Federation expects an astonishing 166.3 million people to take advantage of the discounts. With economic factors hitting household budgets but a desire to make the most of a pandemic restriction-free Christmas, we could see historically high numbers shopping in the Black Friday and Cyber Monday retail events.
