Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the 2023 holiday season, and this Friday is expected to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year. The term “Black Friday” originally referred to the practice of calling in sick on the day after Thanksgiving to enjoy a four-day weekend, but its meaning has evolved in recent years.

Black Friday is the biggest day for sales in the lead-up to Christmas, attracting many enthusiastic shoppers.

Many stores will open early on Black Friday to accommodate the surge of customers, but opening times will vary between retailers and branches. With variance across the country, you should check online for your local store’s Thanksgiving opening hours before heading out.

We know that JCPenney, Best Buy, and Kohl’s will open at 5 am on Black Friday 2023, and other major retailers are expected to follow.

Black Friday sales to last the weekend

While Black Friday 2023 is officially scheduled for Friday, November 24th, the special deals leading up to the holiday are not limited to that one day. Several retailers have already started offering a limited number of early Black Friday deals at the beginning of the week, and these discounts will probably continue throughout the weekend.

The days after Black Friday have become an essential part of the retail event, thanks to the increasing trend of online shopping. Cyber Monday, which falls three days after Black Friday, is when online retailers offer significant discounts on their goods.

According to the National Retail Federation, a staggering 182 million people are expected to shop between Black Friday and Cyber Monday this year.

With economic factors hitting household budgets but a desire to make the most of a pandemic restriction-free Christmas, we could see historically high numbers shopping in the Black Friday and Cyber Monday retail events.
