Bundle up: States that will see snow and rain on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day
The weather could interfere with New Year’s celebrations in parts of the U.S. Some states will be blanketed with snow, while others will be hit by storms.
Millions of Americans will witness winter weather as they bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one.
According to AccuWeather’s weather forecast, some states across the country will see a light dusting of snow between Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, while others will be hit by a series of torrential storms.
Areas in the U.S. that can expect snowfall
The northern and western Great Lakes region will see a light dusting of snow between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. States that could see snow range from Illinois and Indiana to northern and western New York and northern New England.
Snow is also expected in areas of the Rocky Mountains from Montana and Wyoming to parts of Colorado on New Year’s Eve.

Prepare for heavy rains
Be prepared with umbrellas and raincoats if you live in the northeastern United States. From Tuesday through Wednesday, torrential rain is expected from North Carolina to Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, much of Pennsylvania, southeastern New York and southern New England, according to meteorologists at AccuWeather.
The rains will begin to make an appearance from the second half of Tuesday afternoon until early Wednesday morning.
Times Square in New York will be one of the spots most affected by the heavy rains, which will cause complications for all those who gather to watch the traditional ball drop.
