California declares state of emergency as wildfires rage across the state. Thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes in the past 24 hours due to rapidly spreading flames.

The first fire was reported at around 10:30 a.m. local time on January 7 in Pacific Palisades. So far, the phenomenon has scorched more than 5,000 acres. A second fire was reported in Eaton, destroying 2,227 acres, and a third in Hurst. The latter has affected 500 acres.

“All Los Angeles residents are in danger”

As winds continue to blow, flames continue to spread across the Golden State. Although authorities are working to contain the fire, the entire county of Los Angeles is in danger, warned Fire Chief Anthony Marrone.

Strong winds and low humidity have put all residents of Los Angeles County at risk,” Marrone said. So far, the phenomenon has claimed the lives of two residents of the state, near the city of Pasadena.

Los Angeles asks other counties for help

The Los Angeles Fire Department has requested assistance from emergency crews in other counties, including Orange, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, to help contain the blaze and deal with the emergency situation. Other states, including Nevada, Oregon and Washington, are also sending aid to California.
