To help jumpstart our guide, we took a few clues from Holly Johnson over at Travel Pulse, who compiled a list of the most common celebrity vacation spots in 2022. Then, using Hotels.com (but really any travel site will do!) and searching for the last week of August, we were able to determine which locations from the list could be made into a more affordable vacation for those looking for a getaway this summer.

1. Mykonos, Greece

Celebrities and non-celebrities alike who have had the chance to visit Mykonos walk away with beautiful memories featuring Greece’s delicious food, warm culture, and beautiful beaches. Mykonos is great for those who are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the country’s capital Athens, but still have plenty to offer so that vacationers can make the most of their trip.

While movie stars and tech executives may choose to stay at Villa Santa Esmeralda Mykonos, which can cost more than $10,000 a night, there are plenty of cheaper options for those on a budget.

In terms of hotels, Mr & Mrs White Tinos has rooms and suites that range in price between $900 and $2000 for six nights.

Similarly, Syra Suites situated right on the coast, has rooms available this summer for under $1,300 for six nights.

For those looking for an even cheaper getaway, the island is home to various highly-rated hostels.

  • Villa Elina suites and more: starting at $39/night
  • Villa Vasilis Ornos: starting at $23/night
  • Vougli View: starting at $38/night

2. Bali, Indonesia

Another beach destination, Bali, is great for those looking to go somewhere tropical.

Celebrities from Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger to George Clooney and Julia Roberts have all visited Bali, and many other stars have said that they appreciate that it is one destination where their privacy is respected. For the average person looking for a summer getaway, such benefits may seem unimportant, but there are plenty of others that this lovely destination has to offer.

With beaches, scuba diving, hiking, and great local cuisine, Bali will call you back once you have departed.

If the St. Regis Bali Resort is out of your budget, fret not! The island is welcome to many more affordable options.

Hostels can bring down the cost of your vacation even further, and the island is home to a few, including Mojosurf Camp Canggu, The Jungle House, and Arya Wellness (female only), all have great views and offer much more accessible prices.

3. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Unlike the previous two locations, Rio de Janeiro is a much bigger city. Home to nearly 7 million people, Rio is recognized as one of the most beautiful cities in the world... which is how it attracts the attention of so many celebrities.

For those who are able to tolerate four-star accommodation, there are plenty of options for less than $900 for six nights. The Window Tower Hotel, PortoBay Rio de Janeiro, Arena Copacabana Hotel, and Windsor Florida Hotel are all nice options.

4. Costa Rica

Costa Rica is another favorite of the rich and famous that can be visited without breaking the bank.

Whether you want a city, mountains, or beach to soak up the warm air, Costa Rica has you covered.

The Volcano Lodge Hotel & Thermal Experience, located near Palma, is great for those looking to hike and soak in the thermal baths that are warmed by a nearby volcano.

For beach-goers, the Gilded Iguana Surf Hotel might be a better option. However, current prices are hovering around $1400 to $1600 for six nights. The hotel prides itself on fostering a community among guests and will get visitors connected with all they need to go out and catch some waves.
