Check your attic: These 2000s toys you might have could be worth thousands of dollars

Looking for a way to make money by essentially doing nothing? Take a look in your attic, garage or alternative storage space and you could be sitting on an unexpected fortune in the shape of toys from yesteryear.

Of course, making some extra cash from dolls, Lego sets or action figures decades down the line isn’t at the forefront of our thoughts when we first get them, although it can (literally) pay to keep them in good condition.

And they don’t necessarily have to have belonged to your grandparents. In case you missed it, the 2000s were two decades ago, so ‘modern’ toys might also be worth more than you think.

‘Vintage’ 2000s toys that could be worth a fortune

Tamagotchis

There was a time (in the 1990s and 2000s) when everybody under a certain age (and maybe some others over it) had a Japanese digital pet. You can still get them on eBay nowadays for as little as $10.99, although some editions go for hundreds of dollars and the most expensive one listed is at a whopping $12,000.

Furbies

Or should it be Furbys? Either way, the electronic owl-like creature was a must-have in the late 90s and early 00s. Pre-owned Furbies might only earn you a few dollars, but brand new - and even some used - ones might be worth thousands. The limited edition Kid Cuisine Furby, from 1999, is going for just shy of $45,000.

Polly Pockets

You can get your hands on all sorts of Polly Pockets goodies online, but some unopened, vintage editions and sets could also be worth four figures, including the Polly Pocket Pollyville Weekend playset, listed on eBay for $15,000.

Barbies

Perhaps fuelled by the recent success of Greta Gerwig’s movie, old Barbie dolls are more expensive than ever. A rare 2000 Millennium Princess Barbie is hoping to fetch $49,000, while a set of 57 NBA Barbie Dolls (the Dallas Mavericks' one is a substitute), which dates back to 1998, is listed for precisely $1 million.

Barbies go for any price imaginable, so if any of yours are in good condition, there might be somebody out there willing to pay more than you’d imagine.

Hannah Montana Malibu Beach House

Not many things say mid-to-late 2000s more than Hannah Montana. If you still happen to have the ‘old’ Malibu Beach House intact, it could be worth as much as $260.

Hot Wheels Highway 35 World Race Ultimate Track Set

Only 1,000 of this particular track set were ever made. If you were one of the lucky ones that had it, the full set could now be worth up to $1,000.

Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP

Basic versions of the 2003 games console might only be worth around $20. However, if you have a special edition in pristine condition, it could fetch into the thousands.

One eBay user is hoping to get $1 million for a Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP signed by Ginger Spice (although you could argue she is more synonymous with the 1990s).

Monopoly: Simpsons Treehouse of Horror

You could get a lot of cash for giving away fake money. Based on the famous Simpsons episode of the same name, the special edition board game could now be worth hundreds of dollars once dusted off.
