Costco’s new huge chocolate chip cookie: Price, calories, size...
The departure of the churro from the supermarket’s food court heralds the arrival of a sizeable replacement.
Costco is known for its ‘loss-leader’ products, such as the famous $1.50 hotdog. The idea is that customers are drawn to the cheaper products, which may not make a profit themselves, and then buy the more expensive items once they are in the store.
The newest of these products has been hitting food court shelves since the turn of the year. Replacing the outgoing churro is the double chocolate chunk cookie. Already described as “mammoth,” this monster has 750 calories. Pretty remarkable for just one cookie.
It costs $2.49, $1 more than the churro it is replacing and a similar increase on the hot dog. It remains to be seen how popular it could be.
Most people have been happy with the cookie itself; gooey on the inside, crunchy on the outside with one noting it “doesn’t get any better consistency wise.” Arriving to the customer warm, customers preferred to eat without letting it get cold. Heating it at home was also a hit.
While also described as “rich” and being “too much,” no doctor would recommend someone sit and eat a 750 calorie cookie straight off the bat. While some customers noted its size is not huge for Costco, it seems most people preffered splitting the cookie with someone else.
It’s nothing revolutionary, but who was expecting that from a Costco cookie in the first place?
