Update:

Daniel, a Polish man living in the U.K., recently took to social media to share his shocking experience after buying a chocolate bar at a grocery store.

“Something felt weird on my lips”

The incident occurred when Daniel decided to purchase a Dairy Milk, a product made by the well-known British confectionery brand Cadbury. Upon taking his first bite, he noticed an unusual texture and taste.

Something felt weird on my lips,” Daniel told an interview with Newsweek earlier this month. When he took a closer look at the Dairy Milk, he discovered that a piece of plastic was embedded in the chocolate.

Initially, Daniel thought it would make an interesting story to share on social media, where he posted photos of the product and explained what had happened.

Daniel’s experience sparked concern among internet users, who highlighted the seriousness of the situation, and he decided to contact the chocolate brand to report the incident. The company apologized and assured him they would investigate.

“The safety and quality of our products is of paramount importance to us, and we’re sorry to hear about this experience,” a spokesperson for Cadbury’s parent company, Mondelez International, told Newsweek.

“A child could have been hurt”

Although Daniel did not suffer any harmful consequences from consuming the chocolate, the incident raised questions about quality control in food manufacturing and the safety of products on store shelves.

Nothing happened to me, but a child could have been hurt,” Daniel said, revealing to Newsweek that his young son had also eaten a section of the chocolate before the piece of plastic was discovered.

Experts recommend that consumers carefully inspect food products before eating them, and report any anomalies to health authorities.

The food-safety incident in the U.K. comes as chocolate consumers in several states in the U.S. were placed on red alert over potentially deadly defects in certain products.

U.S. chocolate products recalled over possible allergic reactions

Last week, the New Jersey-based company United Natural Trading recalled a batch of chocolate-coated pretzels, which had been distributed in N.J., Connecticut and New York, after detecting an “undeclared milk allegen” in the product.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the company said in a statement shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the FDA has upgraded the severity of a recent warning over chocolate products recalled by a Californian manufacturer.

Per NBC, the FDA has issued a “Class 1” classification to some items listed in December’s recall of a range of products made by the firm Cal Yee Farm. Class 1 is the agency’s most serious recall bracket.

The FDA describes a Class 1 recall as “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”

The upgraded products, NBC reports, are chocolate-coated almonds, chocolate-coated walnuts and chocolate-coated apricots, as they may contain undeclared milk. They were distributed in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas and Virginia, a Cal Yee Farm statement said.

Milk is one of nine major food allergens listed by the FDA, together with eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame.
