Governors Ron DeSantis and Gavin Newsom will face off in a debate this Thursday night, November 30, in Alpharetta, Georgia. The meeting will take place at 9:00 p.m. ET can be followed live on Fox News, the television station broadcasting the encounter.

Today’s event will serve as the epilogue to a year of mutual criticism between one governorship and another. For his part, Newsom has consistently criticized the Republican’s immigration policy, as well as his proposals and legislation on abortion and education, while DeSantis has done the same regarding Newsom’s respective immigration policy, the housing crisis in California and his response to covid-19.

Faced with criticism, and after 36 immigrants were flown to California courtesy of the Florida Governor, Newsom challenged DeSantis to a public debate, a challenge he finally accepted in August. Newsom’s counterpart in Florida for his part suggested that the California Governor seek the Democratic Party candidacy for the 2024 general elections, which would give them the possibility of facing each other for the leadership of the White House, as DeSantis is currently fighting for the Republican nomination. However, Newsom rejected the challenge, arguing that his time to run for president has not yet come.

DeSantis vs. Newsom: These are the topics that will be discussed in the debate

According to information from Fox News, the debate will focus on issues of great relevance to the respective states, such as undocumented immigration and the southern border migration crisis, economy, crime, abortion and even inflation.

According to an email to potential donors, collected by KCRA,“Governor Newsom is going to take the debate stage and tell something the viewers of that network rarely get a chance to hear … the TRUTH about Joe Biden’s record. We hope you’ll tune in.”

Speaking for the other podium, Robert Salvador, a member of the DeSantis campaign, noted that the governor of Florida will talk about the issues important to Californians “criticizing the policies, driving what was and still is and still can be an incredible economy and a beautiful place.” Furthermore, the campaign surrogate says that DeSantis “by all means does not want to criticize California,” but instead will likely highlight his record as the governor of the Sunshine State.
