Does Missouri have open carry?

The state which Kansas City is based has very liberal gun laws; there are very few rules on restricting the proliferatrion of weapons.

The shooting in Kansas at the Super Bowl parade would be shocking if gun violence wasn’t so rife in the US. Kansas City is in Missouri, a US state with extremely relaxed gun ownership laws.

Open and concealed carry are both legal without requiring a licence. No background checks are needed and weapons need not be registered. However, federal law still requires background checks for firearms purchased from licensed dealers, regardless of whether the sale occurs at a gun show or a retail store.

Missouri is a “shall-issue” state for concealed carry permits. This means that as long as an individual meets the requirements set forth by state law, the issuing authority, usually the county sheriff, must issue the permit.

Other specificities of Missouri gun laws

Missouri has a “stand your ground” law, which allows individuals to use deadly force in self-defense without a duty to retreat if they reasonably believe it is necessary to defend themselves or others from imminent death or serious bodily harm.

The state has a “Castle Doctrine” law, which means that individuals have no duty to retreat from their home or vehicle before using deadly force against intruders who unlawfully enter or attempt to enter.

Missouri has relatively few firearm regulations beyond those required by federal law. There are no restrictions on magazine capacity or “assault weapon” bans.
