If you have had difficulty getting a loan for your farm, you might want to check out the resources available at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The office provides economic assistance to farmers and ranchers who are not able to get financing from banks or other commercial credit sources, with different programs for rural Americans that could help in issues involving farm ownership and operations.

The USDA’s Farm Service Agency provides loans to those who need help starting, expanding, or owning a farm or ranch. Applicants can ask for a loan if they wish to buy a farm or ranch; purchase related elements such as tractors, livestock, greenhouses, or irrigation pipes; or if they want to expand their business.

Loans for different needs

Operating loans can be used to buy materials needed such as seed and equipment, and defray expenses such as operating and living costs as the farm tries to get on its feet. Micro-loans are specifically offered to small and beginning farmers.

Rural Americans can also apply for a loan if their crops, farm buildings, or equipment were damaged by natural disasters such as droughts, flooding, or storms.

There are also special loans for different sectors, such as the youth, Native Americans, and minority and women farmers.
