Some months will see Social Security payments but these only come at the expense of other months when usual days fall on weekends.
Social Security payments will be getting a modest 2.5% increase for 2025 payments. The first of these adjusted benefits will be actually be sent in December instead of January, due to a quirk in payment dates.
SSI recipients typically receive their payments on the 1st of each month for that month. However, if the first falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is issued on the preceding business day. For the January 2025 payment, SSI recipients will receive their payment on December 31, 2024.
This is happening at four other points in 2025, meaning the following months will have two SSI payments:
While some months may appear to have two payments, this is due to the payment schedule and does not represent additional benefits. The SSA is simply ensuring that payments are made on time when regular payment dates fall on non-business days. This also means that the months after the dual payment will have no SSI payments.
