Dual winter storm in the US: States in alert for snow and how long will it last?

Two winter storms have hit the US causing snowfall in mutliple states. Who is affected?

Severe weather continues to spread across the United States. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an alert for more than three dozen states due to the arrival of two major winter storms, which will cause “extreme snowfall” in several regions of the country.

“Two powerful systems will continue to impact the northwest, central, southern and eastern US Pacific this week. There is a possibility ofsevere thunderstorms, damaging winds, heavy snowfall, blizzards, flash floods and coastal impacts”, reads the official NWS website.

All the states affected by the adverse weather

According to meteorologists, there will be snow storms for the entire Midwest region of the country, while torrential rains and thunderstorms will invade from the Southeast to the Northeast of the country.

From southeastern Colorado and part of western Kansas, to the upper part of the Michigan peninsula, significant snowfall is expected, which will pass through Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois. Snow accumulation of between 8 and 12 inches is expected in these areas.

In the higher regions of Iowa, forecasters are predicting “extreme snowfall” with accumulations of between 9 and 15 inches. South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin are also under alert, with possible snow accumulations of up to 10 inches. In Indiana, projections call for snowfall close to 6 inches. Heavier snowfall is expected in Oregon and Washington , as well as in the mountainous regions of northern California, the mountains of Nevada and those of Utah.

New Hampshire and Maine are also under alert, as are the mountains of Arizona and New Mexico, while southwest Idaho is expected to see a snow accumulation of up to five inches. Similarly, in the highest parts of Wyoming there will be snowfalls that will reach up to three inches of snow.
