Earthquake Notification Service: how do alerts work to find out if there are aftershocks of the earthquake in New York?

If you wish to receive alerts regarding the earthquakes, the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program provides an Earthquake Notification Service (ENS), a free customizable system.

The default setting for new accounts sends notifications to users regarding earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.0 or greater. You may change the settings according to your needs.

You can sign up for the Earthquake Notification Service and receive emails or text messages about tremors as the locations are published. You can specify your own geographic area and magnitude threshold.

The details on how to set up your ENS account is available on the USGS website.
