Elon Musk just changed his Twitter name to ‘gorklon rust’: Here’s what it means
Explaining Elon Musk’s name change on X, which makes reference to a parody account on the platform he owns.

Twenty-four hours later, Elon Musk is still rocking with a new name on X, the social media platform he owns: Gorklon Rust. Some followers and observers of Musk are struggling to figure out exactly what the name is a reference to... Here’s a brief explainer.
Where does this all begin?
On Sunday, May 4, Elon Musk tagged an account (@gork), saying that he had changed his “pp” or profile picture to his, and asked him what he thought. The profile picture posted by Musk features @gork’s but with sunglasses overlayed over the eyes. @gork replies “did you have to copy my whole face like that smh” (smh = shaking my head).
Though @gork was initially into the new ‘pp,’ Musk’s reply is basically a repeat of his earlier message. “Now we have the same pp,” to which @gork replies “bro we twinning now i guess” adding that it is “kinda creepy tho ngl” (ngl = not gonna lie).

Who is @gork?
@gork appears to be some sort of meme account that aims to parody Grok, the AI chatbot available on X. These suspicions are confirmed by Grok, who said that @gork “is a viral parody account on X that mimics xAI’s AI chatbot, Grok.” Grok notes that @gork “is known for posting sarcastic, meme-heavy content,” also calling the account “witty” and “edgy” in the replies.
Musk has been loving @gork, and the name change sent the ‘shitcoin’ or memecoin named after the paradoy account flying, according to BeinCrypto.
After renaming himself “Gorklon Rust” on X, Elon triggered a meme coin frenzy: GORK spiked 58.7%, new tokens soared up to 7,000% 💸

Depending on Musk’s stake in @gork, he could have stood to gain if he purchased tokens early and sold them as demand soared in the hours following. Nevertheless, the gains seen over the last day do not come close to the prices the coin sold for in the year following its release in 2023, when it reached the value of a penny, which it has fallen below today.
