Elon Musk says he will seek full custody of his son with Ashley St. Clair following her support for transgender rights
Musk cites concerns over his 1-year-old son potentially undergoing a gender transition following St. Clair’s public shift to progressive views.
Elon Musk has announced he will seek full custody of his son with influencer and author Ashley St. Clair. The decision comes after St. Clair publicly shifted her political stance from conservative to progressive and issued apologies on X, formerly Twitter, for past transphobic remarks.
“She might transition a 1-year-old boy”
“I will be filing for full custody today, given her statements implying she might transition a 1-year-old boy,” Musk wrote in response to a post showing St. Clair’s X profile, where a user commented that Musk “needs” full custody.
Who is Ashley St. Clair and why did she apologize?
St. Clair, a former conservative influencer and author, is the mother of Musk’s youngest child. She wrote “Elephants Are Not Birds,” published by Brave Books, which describes its mission as preserving “moral integrity to teach complex Christian and conservative values.” In a 2021 DailyMail interview, St. Clair said, “I hope the values taught in this book can stop what I call transgender cases by force.”
In another interview with the New York Post, she shared her concerns about raising her child, saying, “I’m having a baby in November, and it’s scary to think that my child could come home and say, ‘My friends identify differently, and this is how I feel,’ and make my child cry because they weren’t put on hormone replacement therapy.” Her comments framed her motivation as a fight against books that encouraged children to “make equality a reality.”
On January 11, after publicly sharing her progressive stance, a user on X called out St. Clair for her past transphobic comments. She responded that she felt “immense guilt” for her role and for any pain she may have caused Vivian Jenna Wilson, Musk’s daughter and LGBTQ+ activist.
St. Clair also announced that her name would be removed as the author of “Elephants Are Not Birds” to “make amends” for the harm caused.
St. Clair blasts Musk and Grok over explicit images
In recent months, St. Clair has openly opposed Musk’s statements and positions. She has criticized X’s AI technology, Grok, after it generated explicit images using a photo of her at 14. “They removed my ‘blue check’ faster than they removed the child sexual abuse content Mechahitler created with Grok,” she tweeted.
Since April, St. Clair has also accused Musk of forcing her to sell her Tesla Model S to cover a 60% reduction in child support payments he provided for their son.
