Fresh off his latest wranglings with the Twitter purchase, Elon Musk is courting criticism for his comments in a recent interview that he would not vote Democrat at the next election, he will vote Republican.

Talking to the All-In podcast, Musk said he has “voted overwhelmingly for Democrats, historically. Like I’m not sure, I might never have voted for a Republican.”

He added that “In the case of Biden, he is simply too much captured by the unions, which was not the case with Obama.”

Everyone votes according to their own interests, so it is therefore no suprise that Musk as a billionaire would vote against a party that wants to tax him more. However, it would concern many that he would support a political party which is doing its utmost to damage the rights of women in the US.

Furthermore, many members of the Democratic party have been vocal in their support of recent unionising efforts across America. In 2022, there have been many unionising firsts. The first Amazon warehouse voted to form its first union, despite the millions of dollarsset aside by the corporation to kill the plan. For Musk, Tesla factories have no unions.

Musk changed his reasoning for his voting change of heart in a later tweet, saying that Democrats had become a “party of division & hate.”

On his announcement, Tesla stock fell 6.8 percent.

Which reasoning is more plausible?

At this stage Musk hasn’t actually voted, and he is known for his antics on Twitter that have got him in hot water in the past, such as when he was judged to have artificially inflated Tesla stock with his tweets. However, Musk has become more critical of the Democratic part over the last year as the Biden administration has been very public about its support for larger taxes on wealthy Americans.
