Elon Musk’s attempt to recruit Mark Zuckerberg in a plan to stop Bill Gates comes to light
The legal battle between Elon Musk and OpenAI has revealed attempts to control the future of artificial intelligence.
As part of the latest trial over the dispute between Elon Musk and OpenAI, it was revealed that the entrepreneur attempted to recruit Mark Zuckerberg to counter Bill Gates’s influence. According to the documents presented, Musk asked the Meta founder to join his plan to acquire ChatGPT, aiming to prevent it from falling under Microsoft’s control.
During the hearing, it became apparent that Musk had offered around $114 billion to Sam Altman to acquire the company.
The strategy included convincing Zuckerberg to participate in the joint operation, but he showed no interest in the proposal. According to Business Insider, Zuckerberg didn’t even respond to Musk’s invitation and instead focused on developing his own chatbot, which directly competes with ChatGPT. This lack of response strengthened OpenAI’s position, ultimately leading to the rejection of Musk’s multi-billion-dollar offer.
Musk’s history with OpenAI
It’s worth remembering that Musk and Altman co-founded OpenAI in 2015, along with other investors; however, their relationship broke down in 2018. At that time, Musk left the board of directors, citing disagreements over the company’s direction. OpenAI transitioned from a nonprofit to a for-profit entity after allying with Microsoft, led by Gates.
Since then, Musk has filed two lawsuits against OpenAI, alleging that it has violated its founding agreement by prioritizing profit over public benefit. In February, Musk publicly referred to Altman as “Scam Altman.” Meanwhile, Musk launched his own AI company, xAI, aiming to compete directly in a market he considers strategic. At the same time, he continues to pursue legal action against OpenAI in an effort to dissolve its partnership with Microsoft.
