Update:

China displayed much of its arsenal during the military parade marking the 80th anniversary of victory over Japan following World War II. This included a variety of missiles and hypersonic systems.

Among all the missiles, the YJ-17 hypersonic anti-ship missile stood out. It was displayed alongside three other missiles of the same class, including the YJ-15, YJ-19, and YJ-20. Experts believe this model can reach speeds of Mach 8, roughly 6,200 mph.

Experts also believe it could potentially destroy large ships. According to The Telegraph, the missile is reported to have a range of 746 miles and a warhead weighing between 600 and 1,100 pounds.

“They’re an iteration, not a revolution”

Tom Sharpe, a former Royal Navy warship captain, spoke to the British outlet about this missile and the weaponry displayed by the Asian giant, drawing a comparison to the current situation in the United Kingdom.

“These weapons are an iteration not a revolution. On balance, I would say that defensively we are lagging, but only just,” he said. At the same time, he considered it “not very useful” to label this missile as a “ship killer,” since that is essentially its standard function.

Other weapons

During the parade, China also displayed some of its tanks, including the Type-99B and Type-100, as well as missile systems such as the PHL-16 and HQ-29.

One of its most notable fighter jets is the J-35A, designed not only as an offensive platform but also for tactical coordination. Its mission is to synchronize various weapons systems, effectively acting as a force multiplier within China’s defensive network.
