Experts advise iPhone users to take this urgent action: your personal data and bank accounts could be at risk
Attacks on iPhones are not usually widespread, but DarkSword has become a real and increasingly common threat.

Apple has urged iPhone users to update their devices as soon as possible after researchers at Google, iVerify, and Lookout uncovered an attack campaign targeting older versions of iOS. The name that appears most often in the reports is DarkSword, a web-based exploit capable of compromising a device when it visits a manipulated or compromised website.
This issue does not affect all iPhones equally. It primarily impacts devices still running older versions of the operating system. Google says DarkSword’s main reach is on iOS 18.4 through 18.7, while Reuters reports that the cases observed by researchers involved devices running iOS 18.4 through 18.6.2. Apple says devices updated to the latest supported versions, from iOS 15 through iOS 26, are already protected.
Update your iPhone right away
The reason for concern is serious. According to the published analyses, this exploit can open the door to the theft of passwords, photos, browsing history, notes, calendar data, messages, and other information stored on the device.
Researchers have also observed access to iMessage, WhatsApp, and Telegram data, as well as credentials for cryptocurrency wallets.
From there, the risk to financial accounts or other sensitive logins stored on the phone cannot be ruled out, especially if the user remains signed in or has saved credentials on the device.

Apple has responded with several patches and a dedicated support page published on March 19, 2026, emphasizing that updating remains the single most important protective measure.
The company also notes that Safari blocks known malicious domains by default and that users with older devices have received additional updates, including iOS 15.8.7, iOS 16.7.15, and iOS 18.7.6, depending on the model.
If your iPhone has not been updated in a while, you should go to Settings > General > Software Update as soon as possible. For users who handle especially sensitive information, Apple also points to Lockdown Mode as an extra layer of protection.
In a campaign like this, the difference between being exposed and being reasonably safe may be as simple as staying up to date.
