F-35 fighter wreckage found: What happened to the military aircraft and where was the debris found?

Joint Base Charleston, an air facility located in South Carolina, has reported the discovery of the remains of the F-35 fighter, which disappeared last Sunday, 17 of September.

What happened to the F-35 fighter?

The US military reported the disappearance of the F-35B Lightning II fighter plane yesterday afternoon. According to official information, the plane disappeared around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, after the pilot was forced to eject over South Carolina after suffering a “mishap” with the aircraft.

The pilot managed to land by parachute in a neighborhood of North Charleston, South Carolina. Subsequently, he was transferred to a nearby hospital where he was reported as “stable.” Until Now, the identity of the pilot has not been revealed nor have any further details about the incident been released.

The F-35 was flying for Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron (VMFAT) 501 when the accident occurred.

Where were the remains of the F-35 found?

After almost 24 hours of searching, Joint Base Charleston has reported the discovery of the debris of the aircraft valued at nearly $100 million dollars. According to official information, the debris was found in Williamsburg County, two hours northeast of the base.

Personnel from Joint Base Charleston and [Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, SC], in close coordination with local authorities, have located a debris field in Williamsburg County. The debris was discovered two hours northeast of JB Charleston. We would like to thank all of our mission partners, as well as local, county, and state authorities, for their dedication and support throughout the search and as we transition to the recovery phase,” reads a statement from the Base.
