Farewell to type 2 diabetes: scientists discover ISRIB ‘switch’ that could reverse it
A team of scientists at the University of Michigan hopes to replicate the results in cells from diabetic patients and open new avenues to cure the disease.

About 9.3% of the world’s population suffers from some form of diabetes. Now, with research conducted by the University of Michigan, some patients suffering from the type 2 variant are closer to the possibility of a cure. The team of scientists has explained why the β-cells failed to mature and produce insulin and how to solve the problem with an experimental drug, ISRIB, which is also being tested for curing Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
