Several banks, including Bank of America, continue to close branches in the United States. During the coronavirus pandemic, some financial institutions were forced to close locations temporarily due to labor shortages and an increase in infections.

However, after the end of the health emergency, banks have decided to close certain branches. This is due to a number of factors, including the rise of online banking, competition from online-only banks, a drop in transactions at physical branches, the demand for increased digitization, as well as the existence of locations that are not profitable and have a high cost.

When banks are going to close branches, they must notify the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) at least 90 days prior to the closing date through an Advance Notice of Branch Closure, as outlined in the Comptroller’s Licensing Manual.

Each of the closures are documented in a weekly newsletter, shared by the OCC. In the March newsletters, Bank of America branches announced the closure of several branches. Taking into account that the announcement of the closure is made 90 days before, the closure of the branches will take place this month.
