It’s been 20 years since the first edition of the world-famous Tomorrowland festival but this year’s show has been hit by a major problem.

On Wednesday, just days before the 2025 festival was due to open its doors, a fire on the main stage destroyed the entire structure. There were around 1,000 workers on site when the stage caught fire, all of whom were safely evacuated.

Thick smoke from the fire spewed into the sky and could be seen for miles around. The images and video shared on social media sparked concern that this year’s event might be cancelled, but organizers have confirmed that the festival will go ahead.

Speaking on Wednesday evening, Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Willemsen assured attendees that their trips can go ahead as planned.

“There’s a lot of fake news going around, but we’re definitely expecting 38,000 visitors at the Dreamville campsite tomorrow. They’re looking forward to it, and we’re looking forward to it, and we’re going to give them a warm welcome,” she said in a statement. “The festival will go ahead, albeit without the main stage. I can’t yet say how we’re going to handle that.”

“Cancellation was never considered, but the organizers are relying on the authorities,” Willemsen added in another statement. “If tomorrow it turns out that the site is not safe and we receive instructions from the authorities, we will follow them. Safety is always the priority.”
