People across Manhattan have reported seeing billowing clouds of dark smoke from a highrise. Fires of this nature are not normal scenes across the city’s skyline, raising questions about how a blaze of this size began. The New York Fire Department (NYFD) reported that the fire began on the roof of a luxury apartment complex in the Hudson Yards, on 10th Avenue, between West 35th and 36th Streets. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
This fire is not the first to affect the city this week. Last night, more than 100 firefighters were dispatched to Queens after an apartment complex caught fire. The origin of this fire is still under investigation. Residents were forced to leave their homes when the fire began a little after three in the morning. So far, no casulaties have been reported.
Earlier this week, the use of public BBQ pits was banned after a major fire broke out in Prospect Park. The city has experienced an unseasonably warm fall so far with limited rain, making the park a tinderbox.
