This Wednesday, 23 August, the first Republican debate of the 2024 presidential primaries will take place. According to official information from the Republican National Committee, only eight candidates from the party will face off against each other; Donald Trump won’t be attending.

Trump says there is no point in attending thanks to voters already knowing him, besides, he is so far ahead of the others in polling. Instead, Trump recorded an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, which will be airing simultaneously with the debate.

Who will participate in the primary debate?

The eight Republicans who qualified for the primary debate are:

  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis
  • Former Vice President Mike Pence
  • North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum
  • Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie
  • Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley
  • Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson
  • Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy
  • Senator from South Carolina, Tim Scott

First Republican Debate 2023: Schedule

The first Republican Party primary debate will take place tonight, Wednesday, August 23, at 9:00 p.m. ET, and will run for two hours, which means that the event will end at 11:00 p.m. ET.

There will be no opening statements, so the event will start immediately with the questions. Participants are expected to be questioned about Donald Trump’s arrests, immigration and border security, foreign policy, and inflation.

How and where to watch the debate
