On Friday, 10 November, five servicemembers died when a U.S. military aircraft crashed in an accident during training in the eastern Mediterranean, as reported by U.S. European Command (EUCOM).

The accident happened during a regular air refueling mission. Search and rescue operations were immediately launched with the help of nearby U.S. military aircraft and ships. Currently, the U.S. has two Navy carrier groups stationed in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. One of the purposes of these groups is to provide support to Israel and to deter any groups in the region from escalating the conflict in the Gaza Strip to a regional level.

More details have yet to be released

The names of the deceased will not be released until 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified.

An investigation into the crash has been launched by authorities. According to EUCOM, the crash “was purely linked to training and there are no clear signs of hostile activity.
