Update:

Selecting the best footwear for air travel, especially on longer flights, boils down to a few key factors: comfort, ease of removal, accommodating potential foot swelling and passenger safety.

Sneakers are arguably the top choice as they are comfortable for walking through the airport, easy to slip on and off for security checks (TSA), and generally offer good cushioning. Many are breathable, which helps with comfort during long periods of sitting.

Loafers are more polished alternative to sneakers as they also offer similar slip-on convenience. Choose a pair that is already broken in and made from soft materials to avoid pinching.

Sandals, Crocs and ballet flats are also comfortable alternatives with a pair of socks being a useful addition for sandal wearers.

Footwear no-no’s for flying

High heels, stilettos are generally frowned upon and are far from ideal in an emergency. Not only can they slow you down, but they also come with a risk of puncturing evacuation slides.

Flip-flops may be great ahead of a beach holiday but are a no-go for safe air travel. They’re too easy to slip off or trip in, and they offer zero protection for your feet if you’re hot footing it down an aisle or navigating hot tarmac.
