Ford recalls over 1 million cars over brake issues: How to know if your vehicle is affected?
Ford has announced that it is recalling over one million cars due to a problem with their brakes. How will you know if your car is affected by this issue?
Ford has announced that it is recalling over a million of its cars due to concerns that their brake fluid hoses could rupture and potentially cause accidents.
Cars affected by the recall
The recall affects approximately 1,167,000 Fusions and 113,000 Lincoln MKZ sedans which were made between 2013 and 2018. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a safety recall report which states that around 2% of these vehicles were believed to be defective.
According to the NHTSA, “A brake fluid leak will increase brake pedal travel and extend the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of [a] crash”.
The office says Ford knows of one report of an accident related to the issue, but there have been no incidents of deaths or injuries.

How will car owners be notified of steps to take?
The affected customers will receive letters by mail from April 17, and the mailing is expected to be completed by April 28. The car owners will be instructed to take their car to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to replace the hoses. The office adds that there will be no charge for the replacement.
Call Ford or NHTSA
If you think that your car is one of those affected by the issue and wish to discuss your concerns, you may get in touch with Ford or the NHTSA.
This is not the first time that Ford has had brake-related issues. Last year, the company recalled more than 200,000 large SUVs and pickup trucks, including F-150s and Expeditions, because of possible brake fluid leaks.
