Ford’s urgent order to recall and suspend sales due to fire risk in the car: affected models and years
Ford halts sales and recalls thousands of vehicles over a fuel injector defect that could cause engine fires.
Ford has issued its 115th recall of 2025, which affects 59,006 vehicles at risk of catching fire.
The recall covers both safety and compliance issues. The most notable safety recalls involve the 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and the 2020-2022 Ford Escape, classified as “cracked fuel injector and underhood fire risk” recalls.
Fuel injector risk explained
According to the recall notice, “a fuel injector may crack and leak fuel inside the engine compartment. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source, such as hot engine or exhaust components, can increase the risk of a fire.”
Ford says the permanent remedy is “currently under development” and is not expected until February 2026. Meanwhile, dealers will provide an interim solution free of charge, updating engine control software to help detect cracked injectors and reduce fire risk.
What owners should do
Customers who have not yet received the interim software update are urged to contact their dealer to schedule an appointment. Anyone unsure if their vehicle is affected should call Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
As of September, Ford reported 46 vehicles allegedly caught fire due to this issue.
