United States, Mexico and Canada are prepared to host the 2026 World Cup. It will be the first time three different countries share the honor of hosting the tournament. This fact means we will see very different weather conditions depending on the match venue. This is especially true given the vast size of the three countries mentioned.

This World Cup will feature a total of 16 venues distributed as follows: eleven in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada. Although it is very difficult, if not impossible, to predict the weather in the various cities up to July 19 (the date of the final), one can form an idea of the likely conditions.

In Toronto and Vancouver, the only Canadian venues, sunny days will alternate with cloudier ones and storms are also expected. But, in general, temperatures will range roughly between 12 and 24 ºC.

For the eleven U.S. host cities, the weather will vary depending on the region of the country where the match is played, since in many cases there are hundreds or even thousands of kilometers between them.

Electrical storm threat

In areas adjacent to Canada, such as Seattle or Boston, weather is expected to be similar to that of the neighboring country. In other parts of the West Coast, such as San Francisco or Los Angeles, conditions are expected to be more stable and sunny. By contrast, on the East Coast higher temperatures above 30ºC and greater humidity are expected. It is also important to highlight the risk of electrical storms in cities like Miami, Houston or Kansas, which could force matches to be stopped immediately.

Meanwhile, the last weeks of June and the first weeks of July in Mexico will be wet. In Monterrey, moreover, the rains will be accompanied by stifling temperatures with highs around 35ºC and very high humidity, which will increase perceived heat. In Guadalajara and Mexico City, temperatures will be milder, with lows near 10ºC in the latter city and highs of about 23ºC.
