Galaxy phones AI update to please millions of Samsung users

Samsung is giving even more owners of their Galaxy series phones an update with its One UI 6.1 AI features in the coming weeks. Which models get the boost?

Samsung announced in February that it would be rolling out an One UI 6.1 update, which first debuted on its Galaxy S24, across a range of the Korean electronics company’s mobile devices. “Our goal with Galaxy AI is not only to pioneer a new era of mobile AI but also to empower users by making AI more accessible,” said President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics TM Roh in a statement.

At that time Samsung said that by the end of March the update would be available across the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5 and Tab S9 series. “This is only the beginning of Galaxy AI, as we plan to bring the experience to over 100 million Galaxy users within 2024 and continue to innovate ways to harness the unlimited possibilities of mobile AI,” he added.

It’s now been reported that the latest models getting an update to “further the democratization of mobile AI” will be Galaxy A53, A54, and S21 FE in addition to the Galaxy S22 series, the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 as well as the Galaxy Tab S8 series tablets officially announced by Samsung in April. These are expected to be available by 15 May at the latest if there are no delays.

Galaxy phones AI update: What features does One UI 6.1 have?

Samsung is elevating Galaxy users’ mobile AI experience using a hybrid approach that will combine on-device and cloud-based AI. The raft of Galaxy AI features that users with AI-supported models may soon be able to use include Circle to Search with Google, Chat Assist, Interpreter, Live Translate, Note Assist, Transcript Assist, Browsing Assist, Generative Edit, Edit Suggestion and AI-Generated Wallpaper.

Circle to Search with Google will let users circle what they are searching for and the AI will generate an intuitive search.

Three features that will aid in improving communication for users are Chat Assist, Interpreter and Live Translate. Chat assist currently can translate and adjust the tone of messages in 13 different languages. Live Translate and Interpreter will allow users to have access to real-time assistance translating conversations in-person, during phone calls or when texting.

For those looking to make their photos picture perfect, Generative Edit and Edit Suggestion will give you the tools to “resize, reposition or realign objects” as well as “polish any photo faster and easier than ever.” And then you can customize your Galaxy device using AI-Generated Wallpaper.
