Gasoline price reductions at Walmart: how much will they be and until when
Walmart+ members will be getting a bigger discount when they fill up their cars and it will be available at more locations spreading to 14,000 gas stations.
In a move to attract new customers to it subscription service and encourage current ones to renew, the Arkansas-based retail giant announced it will double its discount on gasoline for Walmart+ members. Starting Wednesday, the fuel savings will jump to 10 cents per gallon for Walmart+ members at more than 14,000 gas stations.
That represents a sixfold increase in the number of eligible locations where customers can fill up their cars for less made possible through a partnership with Exxon Mobil.
Where can you get the Walmart gas discount?
Walmart+ members will now be able to receive a discount on every gallon of gas that they purchase at 12,000 Exxon and Mobil stations across the country. The instant price reduction of 10 cents per gallon will be available at participating locations.
Walmart and Murphy’s stations will be offering savings ranging between 5 to 10 cents per gallon depending on state regulations. Additionally, Walmart+ service subscribers can take advantage of member pricing at over 500 Sam’s Club locations.
The 18-month old Walmart+ service includes free shipping of online purchases, free grocery deliveries to the home for orders of at least $35 and prescription discounts. Along with other benefits, such as six months of Spotify Premium free added in March. Walmart+ costs $12.95 per month, or $98 per year.
Drivers seek refuge from high gas prices
Inflation has been battering American households’ finances hitting four-decade highs pushing up the price on just about everything. Although the price of gas has come down since peaking in March at just over $4.33 per gallon on average across the US, it has been creeping up again staying over the four-dollar mark in over half the country according to AAA.
Thanks to the high volume of gasoline sold at club stores, reaching up to 1 million gallons a month at Costco locations compared to an average of 80,000 gallons at traditional gas stations, they can sell gas at a much lower price. This can mean up to 30 cents in savings and one of the reasons customers flock to the warehouse clubs when prices rise.
Chris Cracchiolo, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Walmart+ cited this as the reason behind the increase of the retailer’s gas discount and expanded eligibility. “Ninety-one percent of our customers are aware of the increased prices at the pump and nearly half of those told us they are changing behaviors because of them,” he said in a statement. “More access to a bigger discount will make a difference for our customers. We want Walmart+ to help our customers save time and money, not only when they’re shopping with us, but throughout their day. We’re excited to continue to find new ways to deliver for them.”
