Actor George Clooney has joined some outspoken celebrities in asking for President Joe Biden to step down as the Democratic Party’s standard bearer.

Biden’s poorly perceived performance at the season’s first presidential debate against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump ignited worries from people in the Democratic Party about the incumbent’s fitness to lead the country for another four years. A shorter-term concern for the Democrats was Biden’s capacity to beat Trump.
The beleaguered president has tried to explain his showing by saying he had a cold during the debate and was tired from international travel, but questions remain about his age and how it has affected him cognitively.
Biden has lashed out against his critics, saying he will continue with his bid for re-election.

Actor George Clooney has added his voice to the clamor for Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race. He wrote an op-ed piece for The New York Times to make his case. He said he loved Biden, whom he considers a friend.
Clooney says the issue is “about age, nothing more.” He said this was nothing that could be reversed, and added, “we are not going to win in November with this president.”
The Oceans 11 star is one of a number of celebrities who have been vocal about Biden’s bid. Award-winning actor Rob Reiner agreed with Clooney, saying on social media that “Democracy is facing an existential threat. We need someone younger to fight back. Joe Biden must step aside.”
Best-selling author Stephen King and film director Michael Moore are some of the other personalities who have given a similar opinion on the matter.
User comments on social media have hit back at these celebrities, saying their statements are divisive and are only helping Trump win the election.
Biden supporter ManfromRio responded to Reiner on X, saying “Rob. You need to stop now. Joe will not renounce. Continue on this path and you are doing Trump’s work for him. FDR was elected on his deathbed. Have some faith and get back on the team. And bring that money.”
