Good news for Big Lots customers: Here are the first stores to reopen in the U.S.
Less than four months after Big Lots went bankrupt and closed all of its stores, some will be reopening once again.

If you are (or should that be were?) a Big Lots customer, then there is some good news coming your way, and it’s coming your way very soon. Following the retail chain’s bankruptcy last year, the first locations to reopen will be doing so on Thursday, April 10.
Variety Wholesalers, the retail company that has taken control of hundreds of Big Lots’ stores, confirmed to Fast Company there will be four series of what they are calling “soft openings,” the first of which will begin next month.
Which Big Lots stores will be reopening on April 10?
Nine stories in six different states will be reopening on April 10, with cleaning, remodeling and re-merchandising having started on those stores on March 3.
The stores in question are:
Kentucky
- 1342 Indian Mound Dr, Mount Sterling, KY
Louisiana
- 755 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA
Mississippi
- 2605 W Main St, Tupelo, MS
- 5778 Hwy 80 E, Pearl, MS
North Carolina
- 1432 E Dixie Dr, Asheboro, NC
Tennessee
- 1041 S Riverside Dr, Clarksville, TN
- 744 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, TN
- 220 Dickson Plaza Dr, Dickson, TN
Virginia
- 2911 Hershberger Rd NW, Roanoke, VA
The subsequent second wave of “soft openings” is due to see 70 stores reopen on Thursday, May 1. The last of the four waves will conclude in early June, although Variety Wholesalers has yet to confirm the exact date.

As well as the states mentioned above, Big Lots stores are also expected to open again in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and West Virginia.
Big problems for Big Lots
In December, Big Lots announced it would be going out of business after 57 years following an extended period of financial difficulties. All 870 stores were closed, leading to 27,000 jobs being lost.
However, Variety Wholesalers, which also owns Roses, Bill’s Dollar Stores, Super Dollar, and Bargain Town, stepped in to buy at least 200 stores and two distribution centers from the liquidator to keep the Big Lots chain going.
