Good news for fast food consumers: How the hamburger price wars will save you money
Rising menu prices have seen traffic to dip at fast-food restaurants but a ‘burger war’ could lure customers back.
A looming hamburger fast-food war, could save you money by driving down prices and increasing the value offered by competing chains. As restaurants fight to attract budget-conscious customers a new battle of promotions and deals appears imminent.
For example, chains like McDonald’s has launched new plans to introduce old ‘Extra Value’ meals that offer a sandwich, side, and drink for a set, low price, often significantly cheaper than if you bought the items separately. These are frequently advertised as limited-time offers to generate urgency and traffic.
This move is though to generate a ripple effect on other chains as the pressure to offer value can extend to other quick-service restaurants, and even to supermarkets that have prepared food sections. This forces everyone in the convenient meal space to reconsider their pricing and promotions to stay competitive, ultimately giving you more options for affordable food.
Speaking to the NY Post, retail expert, Will Auchincloss stated: “With nearly 40% of lower-income households already pulling back, recent QSR [quick-service restaurant] price cuts may be a signal of a broader industry shift,” he said, adding that “Brands are facing mounting pressure from value-conscious consumers, and if this trend accelerates, we could see a realignment of pricing strategies across the sector.
